Global Talent Independent Program (GTIP)
Global Talent Independent Program (GTIP)
The ‘Global Talent Independent Program’ was launched by Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs. The program aims to lure up to 5000 high-income earners working “at the top of their field” to Australia in order to best position Australia for Competiveness. The intake will be incorporated in the current annual skilled migration cap of 70,000.Only migrants working in one of seven “future-focused fields” are eligible to apply. The fields are AgTech, Space and Advanced Manufacturing, FinTech, Energy and Mining Technology, MedTech, Cyber Security, Quantum Information, Advanced Digital, Data Science and ICT. Instead of waiting for migrants to apply, GTIP intends to actively seek out talent using ‘Global Talent Officers’ from the Department of Home Affairs. These officers – which have already been deployed in Berlin, Washington DC, Singapore, Shanghai, Dubai.
The program is focused on bringing in external talent, Home Affairs expects the scheme will also, by extension, create “opportunities for Australians by transferring skills, promoting innovation and creating job opportunities”. "Applicants will have a dedicated Home Affairs contact to guide them through the process, and applications will receive the highest priority processing, with complete applications processed in weeks, not months,'' Mr Coleman says.
Salary threshold
The high income threshold is currently AUD$148,700.00 This figure is adjusted annually on 1 July.
